THE FOUNDER


Robert J. Karcher

Bob showed early entrepreneurial skills at age 10 by starting a bottle route, convincing employees of local factories in Mineola NY to save their soda bottles from lunch. Every other day Bob would ride his bike with large baskets and pick up the saved bottles. The next day he would sort them and return them to the local beer distributor to collect the deposits. While maintaining his bottle route, at age 11 he developed a local newspaper route by door to door solicitation. Soon, after finishing his routes, he worked at the local deli and butcheria. There Bob trained as a butcher and deli-counterman (Yes, he did attend school). By 17, he was employed at an Italian sausage plant, working as a butcher and sausage stuffer. It was here his interest in food was set in stone. At the sausage plant, Bob dealt with state and federal food inspectors. These inspectors recognized his passion for the food industry, and persuaded him to switch his college curriculum from Architectural Engineering to Food Technology & Processing. After college graduation, Bob was hired as a quality control supervisor for Kraft Foods. Bob held many managerial positions within the 21 years he spent with Kraft, including QC Manager, Sanitation Manager, Product Mix Manager, Warehouse Manager, Director of Distribution, Director of Operations, and Foodservice Manager for the continental United States. The Kraft division Bob was employed at wound down operations in 2002. Considering future opportunities, Bob found himself reflecting back to his initial bottle and paper route, where he first learned the value of customer service and satisfaction. With over 30 years in the food Industry, Bob started his own brokerage, RJK Sales & Marketing, which was born in July of 2002. Today, Bob is privileged to represent some of the finest manufacturers with the highest quality products in the foodservice industry. (see Vendor Partners tab for more information).
